Among the unsurprisingly large anime world, there are some select series which are so popular that they're often branded as the very image of what anime is. Nonetheless, they have an immense population of followers.
It all started when a boy died to save another, and transformed into a Soul Reaper (Shinigami, a Death God). His adventures in leading an other wordly life led to a series of other adventures that spans hundreds of chapters, episodes and a large fan base in its own way. Yup, totally mainstream.
Perhaps the most brilliant manga and anime there ever was! Death Note is simply amazing and wonderful by all aspects, and its definitely no wonder that this anime series is considered mainstream by most.
