Discover the Galician town of La Coruna on Spain's north west coast during a port of call aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Independence of the Seas. Its a strange city, strange statues, strange architecture. The city is the provincial capital of the province of the same name, having also served as political capital of the Kingdom of Galicia from the 16th to the 19th centuries, and as a regional administrative centre between 1833 and 1982, before being replaced by Santiago de Compostela.
La Coruna is the richest region of Galicia in north west Spain, the harbour which off load large amounts of fresh fish which is just one of many port activities.
Named the 'Crystal City' because of the glass-enclosed balconies which adorn the tall apartment buildings facing the harbour, La Coruña is a mixture of old and new. A must see highlight is Santiago de Compostela, which is home to the magnificent Santiago Cathedral.
This panoramic drive through the 'Crystal City' is perfect for those who enjoy a more leisurely pace. find out more at www.cunard.co.uk
