The Book Chook: Children’s iPad App, Fiete Choice

What is the children's iPad app, Fiete Choice, all about? "All the things I liked in the other Fiete apps are here too. I especially value the lovely art work. This one focuses on making choices, hence the name. Finding the odd one out or the one that doesn't "belong", discriminating between objects and elements, deciding on a choice between several - these are all activities that are part of pre-reading." The Book Chook: Children’s App Review, Fiete Islands

What is the children's app, Fiete Islands, all about? "Some apps I’ve checked out have graphic design that is not nuanced or quirky, and some that is downright garish. Fiete’s illustrations are perfectly pitched at the toddler age group, while maintaining a very high standard of artwork. The game design is just right for exploration, discovery and the kind of learning that imitates what happens in real life." Read more at The Book Chook.

The Book Chook: Children’s iPad App, Fiete Match

What is the children's app, Fiete Match, all about?

The Book Chook: Children’s iPad App, We ARGH Pirates

What is the children's app, We ARGH Pirates, all about? "I liked the way Avokiddo combined the theatre of every child’s pirate fantasy with game elements. There are sacks of gold just waiting to be collected. There are mythical creatures and strange adventures. There are problems to solve, great for creative thinking, but there are also hints to prevent frustration. There is silliness and laughter as for example when Captain Rose manages to drop things on the head of a hapless crew member." Read more at The Book Chook.

Children’s iPad App, Pettson’s Inventions

What is the children's app, Pettson's Inventions, all about? "When the game starts, Pettson speaks to you and promises a prize if you can solve the puzzle. Prizes are virtual cogwheels you can use in inventions. The puzzles, just as in Inventioneers, involve manipulating given objects to solve problems. For instance, mowing a lawn involves releasing a caged “mower” (a very handy bird with a bladed beak!) by attaching a weight to two pulleys." Read more at The Book Chook.

Children’s iPad App, Busy Shapes

What is the iPad puzzle app, Busy Shapes, all about? "To play, a child looks at the visual puzzle, and moves puzzle pieces to where he thinks they should go. Experimentation is built in, and if you do something that doesn’t work, the piece is presented to you again. The puzzles train the user that certain things work - if you see yellow around a hole, chances are the piece to go in should be yellow. No yellow piece currently? Okay, how can a piece be turned yellow?" Read more at The Book Chook.
