Shanghai is a city that faces the East China Sea and is the home of the famous Huangpu River flows. Like all cities in China Shanghai comes to life at night illuminating with life and energy. It is a great place to visit for a drink or a night out in China.
A noted architectural symbol The Bund refers to the Anglo-Indian word meaning embankment facing a muddy shore. In 1846 the British opened the very first company here. There are now around fifty different buildings that represent the architectural styles of the Renaissance, Romanesque, Classicism, Gothic and Baroque periods. At night there are several bars and pubs open in this area and most of the them are known for serving delicious cocktails. If you feel like strolling down the city roads at night then pick out Shanghai Nanjing Road for such an activity. It is always filled with people who sit and gawk at others. Now it has grown to become the best center for shopping in Shanghai. Shopping malls, theatres and international hotels occupy this road making it a picturesque site at night.
At the heart of the city you encounter the People's Square which covers an area of 140,000 square meters. Most of the administrative and official buildings surround the square. The Shanghai Museum, City Planning Exhibition Hall, the municipal office building and the Grand Theatre are located here. There are large trees that envelope the buildings from all angles. It is a beautiful place to visit especially at night when the unique architecture is heightened with the glow of lights. Be sure to check out the musical fountain which is at the square. At night steam seems to come out of the roof of the museum and flickering lights cross over the Grand Theatre wall.
It is a famous garden in the city that is located at the center of the old city of Shanghai. Although much of the gardens are blurred in the night there is a certain mystic feeling you get when you walk across it. If you have just finished dinner at one of the Shanghai restaurants then the walking in Yu Yuan Garden will release all the tension of the say. Near to Yu Yuan is the Shanghai Bazaar. Like most bazaars in Asia the Shanghai Bazaar springs to life after dark. The streets are lit up and filled with the noise of vendors and the sharp tones of customers haggling. Here you can find souvenir items, unique gift items and tons of Chinese street food.
One of the most sought-after night time activities is a Shanghai Acrobatic show. These are usually held every night and will run for a duration of two hours. The best Chinese acrobats are found in Shanghai, they primarily belong to the Shanghai Acrobatic troupe that was founded in 1951. The gravity-defying performances are definitely worth checking out. Some of the popular acts are unicycling, plate spinning, juggling and chair stacking. To watch exhilarating acrobatic shows visit the Shanghai Center Theatre down Nanjing Road.
