here are men in Dublin who will tell you that out of Ireland a great voice has gone; and there are a few women, lost to youth, who will add: "One night he was singing and the next he wasn't, and there's been no silence the like of it!

The man I affectionately termed Odysseus, though never to his face, was sixty-five and ailing. He was Philip Rubinitz, a onetime actor who had served about twenty years by then for the crime of stabbing his best friend through the heart with an antique SS dagger. Nevertheless, he was the facility Rabbi's clerk.

Well, it's finally here--the Bloomsday Readathon. I was not able to truly readathon because of work and all...but I took off at 12:30 and am dedicating myself to reading/listening to Ulysses until I can't do it anymore. I have no idea how long that will be.
BUY THE LETTERS OF NOTE BOOK: UK / US In 1932, renowned Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Jung wrote a largely critical piece for Europäische Revue on the subject of , James Joyce's groundbreaking, controversial, and famously challenging novel. From Jung's essay: I read to page 135 with despair in my heart, falling asleep twice on the way.
Bloomsday is 16 June, and what better poem to bring to a celebration of James Joyce's Ulysses, with its son-haunted protagonist Leopold Bloom, than Joyce's powerful lyric, Ecce Puer? Though a collection of romantic, song-like short poems, Chamber Music (1907), was Joyce's first published book, he soon rejected poetry's sentimental temptations in favour of the objective prose style of Dubliners.
