Listly by Richey Vickers
These are 9 videos on the 21st Century Learner/Learning that I watched for school and how I ranked them.
It was hard to buy into this one. It spits out loads of informative facts but just the looks of it made it hard. It seems as though it is "old", which could mean early 2000's. It was pretty boring with no attempt to be exciting.
Literacy is whether you can read and write. 21st Century Literacy includes the ability to wiki, blog, tweet, and even facebook. This is an information presentation on 21st century literacy that makes you go Hmmmmmm?
This video was my favorite. It was the one that really showed me that I am lacking as a teacher even though I am encouraging the use of technology. I should open up more. "Teach how to use tools to get content." This is not common, what is common is teaching content. The other way will lead to engaging and meaningful learning. This one will open eyes.
This is comes from a college students perspective. Very informative. I appreciate the things they are showing, especially the Google Drive/Docs collaboration. Some of the statistics shared are staggering.
This is a visual face slap from students to teachers. It is a good slap though. It is white boards written on in the traditional manner with a great message. Students want to use what they are familiar with. If they can, why don't we allow them to? The students let it be known that they want to create but not for a teacher, for the world.
This one uses white boards to communicate but is short and to the point. The kids want to succeed but staying in desks and answering questions is not what they want. They want productivity.
This was the most visually appealing presentation. It also contained my favorite quote "If I ain't leaning, it ain't fun." in reference to gamers as students. It comes across as an advertisement for a digital school. It has a powerful closing statement where it declares that the learning and the digital world is now about the two being collaborated.
This gives a description of what the 21st Century Learner really is. some words used to describe are collaborative, connected, creative, and innovative. Trying to reach out to the new age student is difficult. "You must meet them in their learning space!"
Have you been paying attention? This presentation is about making you think about your role. It includes a large emphasis of using cell phones in the classroom for basic activities. I would like to try the "Texting" lesson it includes. Very motivating in that sense.
