First days are jittery no matter what category. The first few weeks of school can be so overwhelming, but not as much as the very first day. Read on to know what should be kept in mind on your first day.
Very basic, and most important. Do not panic or think anything inferior as to how you'll ever fit in that place and spend the next few years there. Whenever in doubt, relax and take a deep breathe. It helps you clear your head and actually boosts your confidence!
There will always be at least one person in the school who will like, and respect you for who you are. Keep that in mind, and be bold. If you only seem to get attention if you're pretending to be something you are not, then it is not really worth it.
Plan overnight as to what you'll be wearing for your first day. First impressions definitely last long and you don't want to be either under-dressed or over-dressed for the opening day. Do this even if you've a prescribed dress-code; keep ready whatever accessories you'll be using. Keep it light and smart, and remember to wear something that you are very comfortable in.
Gear up for whatever unexpected things come your way. Be it related to friends, strangers, professors, classes and even the sudden setbacks. Its tough to be well prepared as you never know the future. But its best if your mind is prepared to take on any situation, and if you are calm enough to get yourself through it. Oh yes, stock up on your stationery supplies and such school related materials, too!
Remember, if not plan A, there's always plan B.
Don't restrict yourself to being an introvert, or don't brand people right away after you've just glanced at them. Give yourself a chance to give everyone else at least two chances. Talk to them gently and don't wince or scowl if you disagree on something: what is wrong for you would be right for that other person.
Though you'll be excited to impress your teachers of your knowledge, its best to keep that for other times and not right away. Most people may tend to avoid you if you resemble even the least bit of being a know-it-all. Nonetheless, say or do what you want. Just don't overdo it. Hermione Granger-ish is not always great in the real world.
True it is that you'd rather be close with those who share your interests, but don't push away people who like other things. Who knows, you may learn a thing or two from them!
Nobody has the right to judge another person--even if they're Best Friends Forever. So given it is your first day at college, do NOT judge anybody!
In life, not everything can be accomplished if you restrict yourself to boundaries. Try doing things that you might not have liked before, that you have an aversion to--who knows? You might actually end up on a fabulous discovery and like that very well!
Not in the same sense of keeping your nose high in the air, don't be conceited. Everything that happens happens for a reason. So there's always a tomorrow even if today doesn't go your way. Don't keep your head high up in the clouds in the cloud, keep it straight ahead and keep it focused. Be confident in what you do.
