Basic tips for hair care

Sure there are so many resources offering tips on how you need to care for your tresses. But here are a few from just another teenager with hair woes like you sometimes.

1

Use a wide-teethed comb

Use a wide-teethed comb

I've used narrow combs whose edges were pointy for a long time, and unknowingly damaged my hair. Using a wide-teethed comb is a lot helpful and better for the hair as it helps in easy untangling of the hair, and also manages to get in some element of straightness into it though your hair is frizzy. And of course, lesser hair is pulled out if you use this.

2

Brush your hair before a shower

Ever noticed how much hair fall occurs after your shower or during it? Going into the bathroom with your hair so frizzy and tangled, hoping that it'll be alright after washing it is a belief not worth trusting in. Brush your hair slow and calm till its tangle free before a shower. Helps in less hairfall.

3

Use the right shampoo

Use the right shampoo

Its alright in case of emergencies to grab the shampoo that's at hand, but not always. Try to consult a hair care specialist if possible, or personally evaluate your hair before choosing the right kind of shampoo for yourself. Choose what suits your hair, and not that which dehydrates it.

4

Wash your hair with lukewarm water

I've heard that very hot water can damage the hair follicles. And that's bad news. Tone down your heater's temperature, or switch it off when the water is lukewarm. Water with such mid-range hair is good news, yup.

5

Hair conditioner is a must

Hair conditioner is a must

I've ignored this for a long time, and have regretted it. Enough said, yes? Its probably best if you choose the conditioner that is the same brand as your shampoo. Also, gently comb through the length of the hair after having applied the conditioner

6

Use cold water with the conditioner

It is a strict rule perhaps for using cold water to apply and wash off the conditioner. My hairdresser advises me this all the time but I very promptly forget this. But this is BAD.

7

Dry with a towel first

Before you set that hair-dryer at full speed on your shower-fresh wet hair, use a dry towel to absorb the wetness as much as possible. And keep a gentle hand at it.

8

Alternate speeds on the hairdryer

You don't want to use one high speed for a long time and end up burning yourself. Alternate between the speeds in accordance to the wet areas of your hair.

9

Say no to tight ponytails

Say no to tight ponytails

Tight ponytails sure are comfortable and chic. Just so, they can do a good deal of damage to your fair follicles, thus making your strands weak enough so they eventually fall off--resulting in a hair loss problem.

10

Plait your hair at night

Plait your hair at night

Its alright for the ladies with short hair, but for those of you who have enough strands to be pulled into a plait, just go ahead and do it. Plaiting your hair while asleep--when you tend to roll sideways and such--minimizes hair fall and helps your morning hair be frizz-free.
