With college season in full swing, here's the list of best college for Commerce in University of Delhi.
Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) is one of the premier institutions in DU for students pursuing undergraduate courses in Commerce and Economics. Situated in the North campus and affiliated to DU since 1926, this college offers only Bachelor and Master degrees in Commerce and Economics. Statistically SRCC has been among the top ten colleges for a very long time. With soaring cut off marks and considerable campus placement, this college is the dream college for many.
Lady Shri Ram College for Women, has long been recognized as a premier institution of higher learning for women in India. Established in 1956 in New Delhi by the late Sir Shri Ram in memory of his wife, the college had its modest beginnings in a school building in Daryaganj, Central Delhi.
Today, the college is located in a beautiful 15 acre campus in South Delhi, has approximately 2000 students, over 150 faculty, administrative and support staff and 16 courses of study. The College became a byword for academic and extracurricular achievement, under the inspiring Chairmanship of industrialist and philanthropist, late Dr. Bharat Ram.
Hansraj College is the largest constituent college of Delhi University with over 4000 students studying on its campus in various science, commerce and humanities courses. It was founded on July 26, 1948 by the D.A.V group of institutions in the memory of famous teacher and social reformer Mahatma Hans Raj. Initially founded as a boys-only college, it later turned co-educational.
The college is frequently ranked in the top 10 science, arts, commerce colleges in India, by the India Today-Neilson surveys.
Hindu College was founded in 1899 by Late Shri Krishan Dassji Gurwale. The college started in a small building in Kinari Bazar, Chandni Chowk, and it was affiliated to the Punjab University as there was no University of Delhi at that time. The college moved to North Campus in 1953.
Notwithstanding its name, students from all religions have grown up here and excelled in the chosen areas of their interests, be it academics, sports, or extra-curricular activities. Currently, Hindu offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Science, Humanities and Commerce.
Established by American Jesuits as Nirmala College during the time of partition and then shifted to its present location in 1954 under the trust founded by Seth Kirori Mal, Kirori Mal College is amongst the finest institutions at the University of Delhi. It boasts of not just exceptionally high standards of academia, but also spectacular performance in extracurricular activities.
Rubbing shoulders with other North Campus colleges, KMC has its own blend of the intellectuals and the non-conformists. It certainly doesn’t compel you to make academics your only priority, allowing you to explore other aspects of your personality. Known around campus as ‘Venky’ or the ‘Stephens of South Campus’ – by those who hold a South Campus Complex, Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams Sri Venkateswara College was set up in August 1961. The foundation for Venky, as we shall refer to it from now on, was laid by Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, more than 5 decades back. It was in 2010 that the college celebrated its Golden Jubilee with the then President as the guest of honour.
The college offers scores of subjects in the Undergraduate field (in Science, Commerce and Humanities) 3 Vocational Courses and 11 courses for Post Graduate Studies. Among the many courses, English Hons, Political Science Hons, Sociology Hons, Chemistry Hons, Zoology Hons and B. Com Hons are sought after courses. The college also boasts of having one of the biggest libraries across DU.
Shaheed Bhagat Singh College was founded in 1967 under the aegis of the University of Delhi. The College is named after the young Indian freedom fighter, Bhagat Singh, who till date, remains a symbol of righteous struggle for the youth, the concept fraught with “coolness” in modern times.
With the students excelling in various fields, the College complimentarily offers courses in all the streams: Humanities, Commerce and Science. The college offers both Graduate Degrees and Postgraduate Degrees. At the undergraduate level it offers 4 Year degrees in Commerce, English, Economics, Hindi, History, Geography, Political Science and Mathematics. At the postgraduate level it offers an M.Com degree. The College also offers scholarships and grants to its deserving students. The faculty is excellent for Commerce in particular, and the college is easily considered among the Top 10 colleges for this field.
With over fifteen well-known courses in commerce and liberal arts, JMC is easily among the better-reputed colleges of the university. Established in 1968, it is run by the sisters of Jesus and Mary congregation. Apart from its academic and extra curricular brilliance, this all girls college is also known for its chic style.
JMC offers 15 courses in liberal arts and commerce, including popular ones in sociology, history and philosophy. Mathematics is also a sought-after subject, along with economics, psychology, English and commerce. It also has a four-year course in elementary education.
Daulat Ram College is a prominent educational institution for women in Delhi University. It was founded by educationist, late Shri Daulat Ram Gupta in 1960. The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Arts, Science and Commerce. At present the college has 16 departments and over 3200 students on rolls. Alongside, it also offers add-on Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses on self-financing basis in foreign languages. The college has acquired ‘The Star College’ status from the Government of India and has acquired equipment and undergone training in curriculum updates.
