Understanding the 21st Century Learner

This is my top 9 list of videos for FRIT 7235: Digital Learning Enviroments

1. Rethinking Learning: The 21st Century Learner | MacArthur Foundation

The reason I felt this video was #1 is the fact that it makes the connection with video games that students don't want to be lazy. They want to be the best at what they do. So this video shows that if you can find a way to reach and inspire kids they will excel to be the best.

2. Pay Attention - Final Final Cut

This video was great because it explains through the use of statistics how important teaching in a digital format is essential for our students' learning. It also focuses a lot on the idea of using these digital tools to *create *and to actively *engage *our students.

3. Engage Me!

This video is student focused and it wants to show teachers that students want their teacher to embrace the technology field and create students to be digitally literate. Students want to be actively engaged and want to see progress in their skills.

4. 21st Century Skills: What Do We Do?

With some catchy music and interesting facts and opinions this video focuses on what we need to teach out students, the skills they gain in our classes, in order to be successful in a quick-changing digital world.

8. 21st Century Literacy

This video while it has slightly dated visuals, has a great point that we need to be focusing our students to use their creativity and collaboration skills that are provided to them by our technology. Students no longer should be focused on pen and pencil, because the world isn't moving in that direction. They actually need to move towards a more interactive style of learning.

5. Teaching the 21st Century Learner

Why do we insist on teaching students in the same traditional format? This video focuses on how we need to evolve as educators in order to reach our students. That our teaching techniques are slightly antiquated and need to be developed.

6. A Vision of Students Today

This video is similar to Engage me, but instead of focusing on younger aged students it focuses on college students and facts about their life. It once again shows that the interest of the students are focused digitally and need to be engaged in that realm.

7. A Vision of K-12 Students Today

Similar to Engage Me! This goes through some facts about technology and how often teachers use technology to engage students. The main theme is once again, "Technology is shaping the world", and how can we understand this to improve how students are engaged in the classroom.

Did You Know?

Although some information is slightly dated, the focus of this video is how much the world has changed and is changing due to technology. It makes you aware of the fact that if your students do no know how to use technology properly, they will be left behind.

9. 21st Century Learning Matters

While this video does contain information about what it means to be a 21st century learner and some examples of a 21st century learner, the video is somewhat boring and that makes it easy to lose focus on the purpose. It does have great information and facts, but it's just not as engaging as the others.
