Strangest Animals Involved in Personal Injury Cases

While hearing stories about personal injury lawyers representing clients who suffered from dog bites is not too unusual, there are occasionally some strange personal injury cases involving animals that make the news. The following list includes a few stranger cases involving animals in personal injury cases.

In Wisconsin in 2008, Melva Lee Yates sued Connie and George Cummings after she claimed their horse charged into her car, causing damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Yates sued the Cummings for over $200,000 for their negligent supervision of the horse. We could see this happening in Utah as well.

In 2001, two members of PETA hit a deer on their way home from an anti-hunting protest...as a result, PETA sued the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife for damages caused as a result of the division's efforts to increase the deer population. Ironic?

In 1999, Daniel Doran hid from Sea World security guards so he could swim with the killer whale Tillikum after the park closed. The whale killed Daniel, and his parents sued Sea World for not displaying warnings that the whale was dangerous.

In another Florida case, a woman sued Palm Beach County after she was attacked by a crow outside an animal shelter. She claimed the crow stayed in the area because it was given food by employees.

In a current case, a woman is suing her mother's neighbor after she fell and hurt herself running away from the neighbor's pet duck. She is currently seeking $275,000 in damages. There are a lot of ducks in Utah. Let’s hope they aren’t rabid.

Wal-Mart has actually been sued multiple times in the state of Florida after people have been bit by snakes hiding in the Wal-Mart Garden Center. Be careful when you reach into the plants! Apparently this is a gold mine for personal injury lawyers.

A woman in Washington claimed she was bit by a potbellied pig when she tried to feed it at a local diner. She attempted to sue the restaurant claiming she had received “lasting injuries” from the bite.

A Connecticut woman was mauled by her neighbor's pet chimpanzee in 2009, suffering such extreme injuries that she had to receive a face transplant and lost both of her hands. She settled for $4 million from the estate of the chimpanzee's owner, but she was denied her attempt to sue the state for $150 million.
