Read on Sight Free

Read on Sight is a great way for early readers to practice sight words, an important building block for independent reading. First a sentence is read aloud, then the word tiles scatter, and the player rebuilds the sentence.

At some point we all learn to read without sounding out each letter in a word. We recognize the entire word and know what it means. This skill is especially important for common words that are not easily sounded out. The sooner a child learns these words by sight, the sooner they gain the confidence to read independently. In the 1930s, Edward Dolch went through children's books and created a list of words that were frequently used but hard to sound out. Once a child masters this list, he or she will be a much faster reader, able to enjoy stories without the words getting in the way.

Sentence Maker

Sentence Maker is an exciting interactive game that helps your child rapidly learn to make and complete their own sentences all with just the touch of their finger. The interface is so easy to use that even a 9 month old baby will delight in moving their first words around the page. Ideal for ages 1 to 6.

The bee then carries the heart to the flower, and if correct, a new petal is added to the flower. After each group of rhyming words is completed, the animated flower will review the words.

There are 28 different rhyming groups with a total of 168 short vowel sound words in the app.

The game uses the Montessori Method for children to learn the phonics and pronunciation. It develops the child's listening and pronunciation of the words. It is ideal for self-paced learning or home schooling. You should encourage your child to work at his or her own pace, and make learning fun!

Cimo Spelling Sight (Lite)

This is a great app for kindergarten through 3rd grade children. It teaches a combination of high frequency and sight words (from the Dolch Sight Word list). The list of 50 words was selected to cover words that a child encounters most often when learning to read (high frequency), including words that cannot be learned using pictures (sight words). Learning to spell these words adds to a strong foundation in reading and spelling for beginning readers. In this game, your child will help Cimo the penguin reach an iceberg to catch fish. Each correct letter chosen adds a block to his bridge. Finish the word and Cimo can cross, but watch out for wrong letters, or Cimo will take a dip! This is the fun game to improve your child's spelling abilities.
