Attorneys are some of the most entertaining characters in the film world. It’s doesn’t matter whether they’re an auto accident attorney from Utah or a personal injury lawyer from Jamaica — the courtroom simply makes for good cinema. Some are men, some are women, some are honest and some are liars. Here’s a list of the best (or worst) attorneys in Hollywood.
In this 2001 film, Reese Witherspoon plays Elle, a lovable blonde who enrolls at Harvard Law School. Originally there to win back an ex-boyfriend, Elle nails her final case by using both her extensive knowledge of the law and several fabulous fashion accessories.
Jim Carrey nails the role of Fletcher, a self-centered lawyer who can’t refrain from fibbing. That is, until his son makes a birthday wish for him to not lie for an entire day.
Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei make a great team in this movie. Tomei, an auto expert, discovers the key piece of evidence regarding an auto’s rear suspension. Pesci stands before the judge as the attorney. Although his character’s credentials aren’t exactly what you’d want in an attorney (he’s failed the bar six times), he is a lovable character who wins the case in the end.
Played by Julia Roberts, Erin Bockovich is a paralegal who takes down a giant energy company which is poisoning a town’s residents. And the name of the character is no accident — Erin Brockovich is a real legal clerk and environmental activist who was instrumental in building a case against the Pacific Gas and Electric Company of California in 1993.
The handsome Gregory Peck gives the lawyer from Harper Lee’s classic more than just a pretty face. It’s no accident that the character from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel is just as good on screen as he is in the book.
All right, so he’s not actually a lawyer. But Ron Woodroof does file a lawsuit — and against the FDA, no less. After being diagnosed with AIDS in 1985, Woodroof was rejected by friends and family and told he had 30 days to live.
