Last week I attended Pioneer Nation, a 3-day conference of solopreneurs and location independent entreproducers, organized by the same folks who put on the World Domination Summit. When I attended WDS last year I realized what Chris Guillebeau had done by bringing this community together: he gave us a digital guild.

This past weekend I was in Portland for Pioneer Nation. I flirted with writing a long in-depth recap of the event but I was having trouble putting it into words. Long story short: It was AWESOME. It was one of my first major speaking events and I think it went well.

Fat Portland raindrops slapped the top of my umbrella as I stood in line waiting for the doors to open at the very first Pioneer Nation. I had been waiting for this in-person version of Chris Guillebeau's, The $100 Startup ever since I read the book last year and applied its advice to my coaching business.

This past week, I presented a workshop at Chris Guillebeau's Pioneer Nation event here in Portland that was a little bit out of my comfort zone. It wasn't about leadership. It was about pricing products & services. And I gotta tell you, it was exhilarating. Scary as heck, but exhilarating.

I had the pleasure yesterday of speaking at Chris Guillebeau's inaugural Pioneer Nation, an intimate event centered around helping aspiring and early-stage 'solopreneurs' get on the fast track to success (and perhaps a better idea of what success means!).

It's been an incredible couple of days so far at Pioneer Nation. Yesterday morning, we took the stage at Pacific Northwest College of Art to give a short talk about our journey and the power of saying yes. We've been busy connecting in the offline world (gasp!)

A dear friend asked me a month ago, "You going to Pioneer Nation?" "Say what?" "Chris G's new conference..." Then she sent me the link: I'd been on the list for World Domination Summit tickets for two years but each time they came up for sale, I didn't have the spare funds.

I just wrapped up my time at a two-day conference for entrepreneurs and small business owners called Pioneer Nation. It was run by the same team that puts on the World Domination Summit, an event for non-conformists which takes place in Portland each summer.

In April 2004, I decided to start a business. It was six months after getting a Master of Architecture degree, and I was doing freelance and temp work related to real estate development. The majority of this work centered around graphics.

It's time for a new American dream. Be your own boss. Create something big. Serve people. Live an independent life. Do it all on your terms and according to your values. I heard these words of wisdom along with inspiring stories of people who are making it as solopreneurs.
