5 Dice: Order of Operations Game

A math game intended for upper elementary and middle school students that helps students enjoy practicing their order of operations. The game encourages students to use higher order thinking to solve the "target" number by working backwards given the answer but not the equation. The best feature about this simple math game is that teachers are able to receive immediate feedback of their students’ progress through email.

Oh No Fractions! - Curious Hat Lab

Practice and explore fractions with this elegant and simple visual app. Swipe left or right to answer if the fraction on the left is LESS, GREATER or EQUAL than the one on the right.

Number Line

Number Line is an educational game app to help students learn about fractions, decimals, and percents by ordering equivalent fractions, decimals, and percents on a number line. The app features multiple levels where the player must drag circles with either a percent, decimal or fraction onto a number line in the correct sequence. A score is earned based on the time it takes to put all the circles in the correct order (faster is better), plus points for each correct placement, minus points for each error.

FactorMan

This math game is played against the superhero FactorMan! You earn points by choosing numbers between 1 and 100. If you choose 5, you get 5 points; if you choose 18, you get 18 points. But FactorMan gets the sum of all of the factors of the number you have chosen (except for the number itself). If you choose 12, for example, you get 12 points, but FactorMan gets 1+2+3+4+6=16 points! Once a number has been used to gain points (by either you or FactorMan), it cannot be used again, and you may choose only numbers that have at least one other factor left on the board. To win you must have good arithmetic skills and develop a careful strategy. It is not as easy as it might sound!

Pick-a-Path

Help Okta reach the target (maximum, minimum, or a specific value) by choosing a path from the top of the maze to the bottom. Seven levels with seven puzzles will test your skills with powers of ten, negative numbers, fractions, decimals, and more. How many starfish can you earn?

Virtual Manipulatives!

I have provided a virtual set of fraction bars on www.abcya.com for several years. Many teachers have contacted me about creating a similar application for the iPad. Here it is! I offer this app for free because virtual manipulatives alone do not provide meaning for learners; they require a teacher to guide meaning and connections.
