Monarch Butterfly Migration Explorer

By searching Flickr for geotagged photos we can see where people were seeing Monarch butterflies this year, and during the past five years. We get a list of photos captured between January 1 and today's date of each year, then generate a heatmap for each year, using the same scale for each year.

Gray Whale Migration Route Map

Starting in February, gray whales begin their 5,000 mile migration from their winter calving grounds in Mexico to their summer feeding grounds in the Arctic.
