Many people are aware of Moodle, but there are others out there as well.
1
Moodle
It's Free. It's documentation is poor. It needs mass customization - but hey it's free. Used in education.
3
Open Elms
Open Elms - is the first and only 100% free open source LMS for business geared for biz from day one. The others were all built for edu first.
2
Dot Net Nuke
DNN - yes there are LMSs built on it. Biggest name? Accord LMS
4
Zotonic
Yeah it's free. One LMS has been built on it already - a newbie - anyway, if you know the code and are creative, with lots of time on your hands or someone else who has time on their hands. This is doable. It's all about people - resources, code and time.
5
Open Edx
Open edX - you might have heard of it - if you are in the edu setting - now use the code! It's free.
6
Sakai Project
Sakai Project - can't say much more than that. Okay, I could - but I won't.
7
Wordpress
Yes, you can create an LMS with Wordpress. LearnDash did.
8
OLAT
It has a funny name, but nothing funny about this open source freebie. Some swear by it, others don't. You decide.
9
Metacoon
Metacoon is made for education - offers several modules, two of which are fee based, but the rest are free.
The site does offer multiple languages - its default is German.
