RHETORICAL VOCABULARY Many students struggle in college or in their careers because they do not have a full comprehension of certain vocabulary or terms that professors and supervisors use. This Rhetorical Vocabulary list is meant to help bridge that gap.
The rhetorical turn in writing instruction has placed renewed emphasis on rhetoric and the rhetorical situation or context of writing. This turn to rhetoric is hardly innovative, and it is not surprising that much scholarship has focused on re-invigorating classical and later rhetorical theories for modern students.
Most of us learn about Aristotle's rhetorical triangle in high school and again in freshman English. The concept is simply this: in order to persuade your listener or reader to do what you want, your argument should be informed by ethos (credibility), logos (fact, logic) and pathos (emotional appeal).
