Sleep Remedies that Don’t Work

Despite what the label says or what people tell you sometimes those sleep remedies don’t work, and you can’t sleep. More often than not many people do things that they have been told will help them sleep, when really it just makes not sleeping even worse.

Here are just a few remedies that people have said will help you if you can’t sleep, when actually they don’t.

The most important thing you could do if you’re thinking about using a decongestant is reading the label. Trying to sleep with a stuffy nose is next to impossible, but what many people don’t realize is that most decongestants contain a drug known as pseudoephedrine, and that will not help you if you can’t sleep.

I know what you’re thinking, reading always helps if you can’t sleep, but think about those times when you get really engrossed in a good book. When you get really into a book your mind starts racing trying to figure out what’s going to happen and you always have to read just one more chapter. The mysteries are not meant for bedtime stories.

Yes, soothing in a nice warm bath or shower is very relaxing and can make you sleepy, but doing it right before you go to bed won’t help. Your body needs time to cool down after the hot shower and become a good temperature for slumber.

Any kind of fluid right before bed is a bad idea. Drinking some kind of drink right before you go to sleep will end up with you waking up in the middle of the night needing to go to the bathroom.
