In my one of the previous article about best forts around Pune City, I have written some introductory information about Sinhagad Fort. I hope you have read it. Pune is one of the most crowded cities in Maharashtra, 8th largest in India and second largest in Maharashtra.
Tikona is one of the forts which are located much closer to my living place Vadgaon Maval. If compared with distance of Lohagad fort, Tikona is much closer. I heard so many praising words about Tikona fort but never got the chance to visit there. Finally wish completed in rainy season of 2012.
The poetry written above in Marathi is a nice description of Purandar fort, located in Maharashtra state of India. Poetry gives you the idea about geographical and structural importance of fort. Somehow the meaning of poetry is, Purandar fort is just like any another normal fort but still it is a special one.

If you are planning for a long trip to Pune city then I would like to suggest you that must have visit to the Lohagad fort. If travel around 52 km towards western direction of Pune city then you can reach up to base village of the fort.
As I remember, after visiting Rajgad fort, we all planned to visit Tung fort which is located close to my living place. Tung fort is just hardly 25 km away from Lonavala Railway station and Lonavala is just 30 km away from my living place Vadgaon.
As I am a follower of the great Shivaji Maharaj who was founder of Maratha empire so Shivneri fort was always in my wish list. As Shivneri fort is birth place of Shivaji Maharaj So I was too excited to be on fort on the day of my visit.
As there are various forts in Maharashtra state of India and most of them are popular due to their historical values. But very few forts are known as best spiritual tourist destination.
