Most ridiculous personal injury claims and lawsuits

Personal injury lawsuits are meant to help injured individuals seek compensation for financial, physical, and emotional losses that have occurred due to someone else’s actions or negligence. Injuries happen every day in Utah and throughout the U.S. sometimes due to someone else’s negligence, but sometimes just due to our own clumsiness. However, there are some personal injury cases that can definitely be deemed ridiculous, here are a few:

According to backwardtimes.com, 61-year-old Frank Maisano, an inmate at the Arizona State Prison sought financial compensation up to $1 trillion, because he claimed the prison food has made him sick. He claimed the food he is given in prison is responsible for cramps which keep him awake at night. He also claimed that he developed an eating disorder because he received his meals late two days in a row. This is not the first lawsuit the convict has filed, in June 2013 alone he had filed 47 lawsuits, most of which have already been dismissed. He also has a history of filing lawsuits, since 1991 he has filed 380 lawsuits.

3. Dangerous Handicap Ramp

Merrill Townsend filed a personal injury lawsuit against a Subway Restaurant for “creating a dangerous ramp, failing to warn, and failing to remedy an unreasonably dangerous condition”. Townsend who does not have any physical handicaps, and therefore no need to use a handicap accessible ramp, fell on the ramp while attempting to navigate it suffering an injury to his head. He sought damages for physical pain, medical expenses, loss of income, loss of enjoyment of life, embarrassment, and humiliation. Can you imagine if people in Utah hired a personal injury for this type of case on a regular basis?
