7 Underrated Beaches to Explore in Uluwatu, Bali, Before They Get Crowded - Discover Lesser-Known Coastal Gems

Located in the southwest tip of Bali, Uluwatu is an iconic location with a stunning clifftop temple. With popular surf spots and scenic sunsets, thousands of travellers visit Uluwatu each year. Nevertheless, there are also untouched and hidden gems that you can escape to in Uluwatu.  Here are 7 underrated beaches in Uluwatu that you should explore before they become the next big thing.

1

Thomas Beach

With fewer tourists and a short walk from Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort is Thomas Beach. This beautiful beach stretch is long and peaceful with calm waters. Given that it is not very famous, there are only a few beachside restaurants but enough options for a quick bite and refreshment. This is a perfect place to sunbathe and enjoy the serenity.

2

Nyang Nyang Beach

A short walk or drive from most Bali Beach Resorts in the heart of Uluwatu and a descent of 500 steps will take you to the Nyang Nyang Beach. This is a beautiful beach stretch with soft white sands. There are no bars or cafes here and it is the most perfect place to enjoy the beauty of the ocean and the cliffs nearby.

3

Green Bowl Beach

This small but breathtaking beach gets its name from the green algae-covered rocks that appear during low tide. To reach it, you’ll descend over 300 steep steps but you’ll be rewarded with turquoise waters. As there are less crowds visiting, there are also no amenities around this area.

4

Gunung Payung Beach

If you are looking for a place to go where culture and the ocean meet, this beach is the best place to go. Hidden behind a Balinese temple, Gunung Payung beach offers golden sands, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant reef life. This beach is also excellent for snorkelling given the rich marine life and relaxing away from the crowds.

5

Tegal Wangi Beach

While located just outside the Uluwatu area, within a 20 minute drive from the centre, the Tegal Wangi Beach is a hidden treasure that's still relatively under the radar. The highlight of this beach is the natural jacuzzi that forms during low tide. The sunset at this beach is stunning and makes a great place for excellent photographs.

6

Bingin Beach

Although this is not much of a secret nowadays, the Bingin beach  remains relatively untouched, especially early in the morning or during weekdays. With cliffside cafes and surf breaks, it’s an excellent place for surfers and those looking for a beach for sunrise yoga. If you walk along the beach, you will be able to find less crowded, peaceful spots that are ideal for sunbathing or reading.

7

Pemutih Beach

If you are looking for a romantic experience, Pemutih beach is the place to go. It is skipped by visitors as there are more famous beaches around but it is perfect for those looking for peace and space. Taking a book with you to enjoy this peaceful beach is highly recommended.
