6 Packing Essentials for a River Cruise – Plan Your Journey for a Smooth Travelling Experience

Deciding on what to take along with you on a river cruise is no walk in the park. You need to consider the kind of experiences you will be indulging in and then choose the items you should take along. Here is a guide to packing like a pro for your river cruise on the Mekong River in Luang Prabang.

1

Comfortable clothes

Warm weather conditions prevail throughout the year in Luang Prabang, Laos. Therefore, it is essential to pack some clothes made from breathable fabrics, such as cotton and linen, for your Luang Prabang river cruise. Though a tropical climate can be found, the evenings in the waters can become chilly. Therefore, throw in a jacket to keep out the cold. Include some sunglasses and a hat to keep the harsh sun rays at bay while travelling in daylight.

2

 Footwear

Take some comfortable shoes along that are ideal for walking if you happen to step out to explore the territories near the riverbank. A river cruise operator like Mekong Kingdoms offers opportunities to explore the mountains and hills in Chiang Khong town in northern Thailand. Also, include a pair of stylish shoes in case there is a dinner or any other social gatherings on board.

3

Electronics

Stay connected with your loved ones through calls or social media. Take your mobile or your laptop and keep it charged for seamless connections. You might need a power bank for this purpose. However, it would be a good idea to take along your universal power adaptor too, as you might be unsure what kind of power plug types to expect. If you are not planning to use your smartphone to take pictures, remember to pack your camera, as there will be plenty of photo opportunities along the scenic riverbanks and during sunsets.

4

Toiletries

Sunscreen is a must during a river cruise in the tropics. Also, take along your shampoos, conditioners, toothpaste, and deodorants. It would be a good idea to toss in a hand sanitiser just in case, as there are a lot of germs in the public areas you will be frequenting on the boat. Remember to add a reusable water bottle to your list of essentials, as the humid climate can make you thirsty. You need to keep well hydrated during your journey.

5

 Medication and first-aid

One of the most important things you need to pack is any medications you might be using daily. Include the necessary amount, as you will not be able to step out onto the land as you please. If you use specific brands, you might not be able to find them in the local stores there as well. Take along some mosquito repellents to keep these pests at arm’s length. Include some first-aid items like pain relievers and plasters in case of minor accidents and ailments.
