Known as one of the biggest fish species on the planet, whale sharks visit some parts of the Maldives often. The best time you will be able to catch them is during the southwest monsoon spell, which prevails from May to December. This is the period when plankton appear. Whale sharks gather near these areas to feed on them. For the best signtings, you need to set out on your snorking ventures during the early hours of the morning.

 Manta rays

Known as the gentle giants of the seas, manta ray sightings are a popular way to spend your underwater ventures in the Maldives. One of the best spots you can engage in this activity is Lankan Manta Point. If you are a guest at a property like Kuda Villingili, you can reach this place in around half an hour via speedboat. You can even engage in snorkelling ventures amid manta rays and reef sharks guided by the expert team from the hotel.

If you are looking for a good spot to see colourful reef fish like clownfish and angelfish, you should head for Biyadhoo Reef. This is a great spot which also has vibrant corals which you can explore during your dive. Sea turtles

Sea turtles are a common sight in the Maldives, and one of the best snorkelling Maldives adventures provides an abundance of time among these gentle sea creatures. A dive into North Male Atoll’s diving hotspots will get you immediately in touch with some of this marine life as they frequent this spot. You get turtle varieties like green sea turtles and hawksbill turtles. These can be found especially near places that have shallow waters and amid coral reefs. Dhigurah-Dhidhdhoo lagoon might be a great place for possible turtle encounters.

5

Moray eels

Night dives are a great time to encounter moray eels. They are nocturnal animals which become more active after the daytime. You will be able to inspect this strange sea life in its natural habitat then. The Fish Factory is a good place to see moray eels. You will be able to locate a variety of moray eels there, like yellowhead morays, leopard morays, giant morays and sooty head morays.

 Eagle rays

Two places are known as great spots to see eagle rays in North Male Atoll. One location is Shark Point, which is referred to as Kuda Faru by the locals. Another popular eagle ray spotting site is Lions Head, which is a protected marine life destination in the Maldives.   The reason why these locations are great places to encounter them is that they embody strong currents. Therefore, you can expect clear waters, which are perfect for sightings there.
