6 pointers for your Maldivian scuba diving adventure – Explore the hidden depths of the underwater world!

The Maldives is known as a paradise for scuba divers. This enchanting archipelago boasts a diverse underwater world just waiting to be explored. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your excursion.

1

The best time to visit there

Though scuba diving is possible year-round, January to April is known as the scuba diving season in the Maldives. This is because the calmest waters, driest weather conditions and best visibility can be found there. These features are perfect for exploring the underwater world. However, if you wish to feast your eyes on whale shark and mantra ray sightings, it is best to visit there between August and November.

2

Choose the best diving spots

The Maldives has many renowned scuba diving spots. One of the best places there, which is worth positioning yourself for your scuba diving excursion, is the Baa Atoll. This place has more than 60 diving locations. Some of the best diving sites like Hanifaru Bay, Dhigali Haa, Dhonfanu Thila and Dharavandhoo Thila can be visited using a seaplane or a speedboat.  If you are seeking privacy, you can take a dive trip, which is handled by a property like The Nautilus Maldives. They have a multilingual team of instructors to help you make your diving experience run smoothly.

3

Book your accommodations in advance

Since the best scuba diving season coincides with the peak tourist season in the Maldives, you need to book your accommodation in advance to help avoid disappointment. Look for the amenities you need at each property and then choose your accommodation.

4

Take along the diving equipment

If possible, take along your diving gear for your underwater adventure in the Maldives. Some of the equipment you can take along is a mask, fins, a snorkel, a regulator, a submersible pressure gauge (SPG), and a Buoyancy Control Device (BCD). You can also pack a dive watch, a dive computer, a dive light, a dive knife, a wetsuit or drysuit, a dive flag and float, scuba gear bags, and any signalling devices. However, if you find it a hassle to take these along, you can also hire them at a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) dive centre close to your location.

5

Get a PADI certification

Obtaining a PADI certificate is essential during your scuba diving adventure in the Maldives. Possessing this certificate ensures that you have the abilities and know-how required for safe diving. It is like a guarantee that the divers possess the knowledge to manage certain underwater situations that are related to safety protocols.  This document has global recognition and lets you go scuba diving in many destinations across the world.

6

 Safety first

Though it is generally safe to dive almost anywhere in the Baa Atoll for divers of all experiences, it is best to be aware of any safety guidelines that they follow. If you are there with your family would be appropriate to book a Maldives family resort as these offer kids’ clubs and other child-friendly amenities to keep your young ones engaged while their parents engage in scuba diving adventures.
