Right opposite the Town Hall is Viharamahadevi Park. This is Colombo’s oldest and largest public park. Once known as Victoria Park during the British era, it was renamed after Queen Viharamahadevi, a legendary figure in Sri Lankan history. The park has a central fountain, palm trees, and landscaped gardens. It’s also a great place for family outings with a children’s play area and walking paths. During the flowering season, the park is a riot of colour and is a favourite spot for photographers and nature lovers.
Galle Face Green is situated along the coast facing the Indian Ocean. This is the most famous public space in Colombo. One of the best things to do near Colombo is watching the sunset at Galle Face.
