Six Things to Know Before Planning Your Trip to Bintan – A Guide for Explorers and Adventurers!

Planning to go to Bintan when you have some time off? It’s a beautiful Indonesian island that definitely warrants a visit. Here are some things you need to know before planning your trip.

1

Best Time to Visit

It’s warm all year round, so technically you can go at any time, but the best period is from March to October. This is when the weather is dry and sunny. These months are great for beach time, water sports, and spending time outdoors. The rainy season runs from November to February, so if you want to avoid the wet weather, it’s better to skip those months.

2

Book Your Hotel

Bintan is one of the most popular weekend spots, especially for those coming from Singapore. Many resorts get fully booked during holidays and long weekends. If you’re thinking of visiting during the peak season, which is from March to October, book your resort early. You have a diversity of accommodation options too. If you’re visiting with family, a Bintan family terrace-adorned room with stunning views is a better option for you. If you agree, check out The Residence Bintan.

3

Getting Around

Bintan is a fairly large island, and public transport is limited, especially around the resort areas. The easiest way to get around is by car or taxi. If you’re not sure how to find transport, speak to your hotel – they will help you. Feeling a bit adventurous? You can also rent a scooter, but keep in mind that the road conditions can be a bit challenging in some parts of the island. Remember that the traffic rules here might be different from what you’re used to, so it’s best to talk to someone at the resort about it before heading out on your scooter.

4

Visas and Travel Documents

Most travellers can enter Bintan visa-free or obtain a visa on arrival, depending on nationality. If you’re Singaporean, all you need is a passport that’s valid for at least the next six months. Also, keep a copy of your hotel booking and return ferry ticket.

5

Beaches and Activities

This beautiful Indonesian island is known for its soft, powdery beaches. Unlike most beaches, these ones are quiet and clean. Trikora Beach is one of the most popular among locals. You can soak up the sun and relax, or you can keep busy with activities like snorkelling, kayaking, jet skiing, and mangrove tours. If you love to hike, head to Gunung Bintan, a small mountain with gorgeous views at the top. Depending on your resort, they will arrange activities for you, not only on the beaches but around the island. Some resorts also offer sunset mangrove tours, so speak to your resort.

6

Food

It would be such a shame if you missed out on the delicious local food. There are so many dishes to try. The best part is, it’s all affordable. What’s even better is that seafood rules the food scene here – and it’s all freshly caught, by the way. Grilled fish, chilli crab, and sotong bakar are among the must-try dishes. If you want something light, there are plenty of noodle and rice dishes too. Resorts usually feature international menus, while the street markets offer more local flavours.
