In the Maldives, you have the rare opportunity to swim with whale sharks. Growing up to about 20 feet, whale sharks are the largest fish in the world. They live for about 150 years, too. Even though their large size can throw you off balance at first, keep in mind that they’re very docile. They feed on a diet of tiny fish, plankton, and shrimp. Another interesting fact about them is that they can take in about 600 litres of water every hour through their gills. It really is an amazing spectacle. The best way to see these wonderful creatures is to get on a boat and head out to sea. As with any wild animal, there’s no guarantee you’ll actually see one, but your chances are pretty good. If you do spot one, you can jump right in with your snorkel and swim next to it! They swim at about 3 miles an hour, so you can easily keep up with them.
