How to Explore Doha Without a Car: A Public Transport & Walking Guide List – Experiencing the history and culture of Doh

Doha, the capital of Qatar, one of the richest nations in the Middle East, boasts a rich history and culture. It beckons visitors to explore its fine architecture, museums, and other authentic and meaningful experiences. To savour these experiences, many exciting public transport and on-foot options await you.

1

Public Bus Service

Although plenty of cars, including taxis, are available for hire in Doha, the public bus service known as Karwa or Mowasalat offers a seamless end-to-end service for locals and visitors using various Doha resorts. As most of the fleet consists of electric buses, your bus commute is almost noiseless and mostly environmentally friendly. Most contemporary visitors look forward to such sustainable experiences, and travelling by public transport is also a good chance to gain local insights.
Karwa bus service operates modern air-conditioned electric buses in and around Doha, including several key routes to/from Hamad International Airport, and it covers other parts of Qatar. Visitors need to buy a Karwa smartcard with different values and packages, readily available at airport vending machines, Doha bus station and numerous merchant outlets in the city and beyond. Select the smartcard based on your travel requirements and length of stay. These bus fares are reasonably priced, starting at 3 Qatar Riyals (QAR) for trips within Doha and 4 QAR and above for trips outside Doha.

   Doha Metro Service

The efficient and convenient Doha Metro is one of the most advanced metro systems globally, with these high-speed trains arriving every 6 minutes. They are elegant, clean and affordable. Doha Metro has three lines (Red, Gold and Green) operating and has the central transfer point at Msheireb Station, the largest one in the country.
Using the network of routes operated by these 3 lines, visitors such as those using the likes of Banana Island Resort Doha can travel to the popular tourist areas. The metro is also connected to the Hamad International Airport, making travel to/from the airport convenient. It offers three types of carriages to choose from, such as Standard, Family, and Gold. Doha Metro enables travelling throughout the day at attractive rates. This Metro service is expected to be supplemented by the Doha Metro Blue line in 2026.

 Doha Bus

A series of iconic landmarks of Doha can be explored on this colourful hop-on and hop-off bus that takes people on a sightseeing tour. Getting a day (full day) ticket gives you your money’s worth with an entire day to look through all the landmarks at your own pace. You can hop off, explore one landmark, and hop on the next Doha Bus to complete other landmarks.

 On foot exploration

It is fun and insightful to explore Doha on foot. While certain parts of the year can be extremely hot to walk about, if you intend travelling between November and February, when the weather is mild, walking is possible and enjoyable.
Stroll along the Doha corniche and witness families enjoying time by the beach, try the walking trail at Qatar Education City or visit the iconic landmarks and museums to gain insights into this great city.

 Two-wheel exploring

Some picturesque parks and tracks offer hours of pleasure and exercise for nature lovers and fitness aficionados. Aspire Park, Olympic Cycling Track and Al Bidda Park are good choices for those who love exercising, bird watching, and running. Use services like Rent a Bike or one of the popular apps like Loop Mobility and Falcon Ride to unlock an eco-friendly scooter or bike, which can be used to get around in Doha.
