Nicknamed ‘Little England, ’ Nuwara Eliya is one of the most popular holiday spots in Sri Lanka. It is known for its cool climate, mesmerizing landscapes, and colonial architecture. Here are some of the best places to visit there for a vacation to remember.

1

 Holy Trinity Church

If you are enthralled by British colonial architecture, then you need to visit Holy Trinity Church. This awesome Anglican monument comprises Tudor and Gothic elements. Upholding empathy and compassion, it derives historical significance as a location which UK’s Queen Elizabeth II and Philip, her husband visited in 1945. She also gave the church chapel a biblically themed stained glass window and a blue carpet while she was there.

2

Gregory Lake

Known as a favourite spot for tranquil getaways, Gregory Lake offers a combination of historical significance, natural beauty, and recreational opportunities. It was built by Ceylon’s British Governor, Sir William Gregory, in 1873. The lake offers a lovely setting for leisurely walks, boat trips, and just taking in the calm environment. Activities like horse and pony rides are also on offer.   It is a great spot for an outing with your family.

Victoria Park

Dubbed the best-maintained park in South Asia, Victoria Park is another tranquil natural oasis that you need to enjoy with your loved ones. These 27 acres of lush greenery were constructed to honour Queen Victoria’s 60th Jubilee in 1897. It is a paradise in which you can seek serenity amid nature’s gifts like flora and fauna. This is also an ideal place to watch birds. Some of the best months to head to Victoria Park are between March and May as flowers will be in full bloom there.

Nanu Oya Falls

If you are searching for a family outing, then Nanu Oya Falls is a great place to head to with your kids. Nanu Oya River descends roughly 60 meters to form the waterfall before continuing on to reach the Mahaweli and Kotmale Rivers. The atmosphere found there is relaxing as you take in the cascade flowing down 25 steps and the surroundings shrouded by flora and greenery.

If you stay at one of the 4 star Nuwara Eliya hotels close by you can head there early to enjoy the place in all its glory in the morning when the surroundings are cool, fresh and ideal for photography. A property like Araliya Red is a 40-minute drive away so you will not find it a hassle to reach it during the early hours of the morning.
