Must-See Natural Wonders in Austria—Mind-Blowing Awesome Attractions

Austria's natural wonders will leave you gobsmacked. From amazing scenery to lakes that glow green, the nation can proudly boast some of the best landscapes and natural treasures in the world. Here is a list of must-see natural wonders in Austria.

1

Explore the World's Largest Ice Caves

Deemed as the largest ice caves in the world, this network of underground wonders can be found about 48 km from Salzburg in the village of Werfen. The Eisriesenwelt ice caves cover an area of 30 km; however, you will only be able to explore a small part of the network. This is still more than enough, as you will be exposed to frozen waterfalls, ice formations seemingly carved by giant artisans, and also an incredible underground ice palace.

If you are the kind of traveller who wants to explore these fascinating wonders in Austria, make sure to look for accommodation at major hotel chains, as it will make your transfers easy. Some, like Minor Hotels with a vast international repertoire, are popular choices.

The ice caves are closed during winter, and open again from May 1st to the end of October.

Discover Austria's Picturesque Vineyard Country

Austria's main wine region is located in south Styria; the area is home to a large collection of vineyards that produce excellent wines. Their quality is further emphasised by the fact that most wines produced are consumed within the domestic market—it is that good! You can sample some of the best wines in Austria with a visit to the South Styrian Wine Road, locally called Styrian Weinstraße.

Easy to reach from your hotel in Austria, this road is lined with vineyards as far as the eye can see, and you can visit them not only for wine tasting but also for a sumptuous meal paired with your favourite red or white. Welschriesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Schilcher, and Riesling are the more popular wines produced in the area, which is also home to fascinating castle ruins.

3

Chase a Mystical Waterfall

The Golling Waterfall, cascading over 150 metres across a rocky outcrop, has been a great inspiration for several 19th-century artists. Located to the south of Salzburg, the falls are found along the Black Brook path ("Scharzenbach"), which leads you to the pools at the bottom of the falls. While trekking along the rustic bridges and footpaths, you can climb to the summit of the mystical cascades.

The Golling Waterfalls too are closed during winter and are open to the public between May and October.

4

Explore the Stunning Schwarzenberg District

Schwarzenberg is a stunning area that boasts rolling hills and endless fields that make up picture-perfect environs. Located within the expansive Bregenz Forest, the district is a testament to the area's natural beauty and customs. You will find intricate wooden homes, and village folk who still dress true to their heritage in traditional attire.

Discover the Beauty of Stubaital Valley

The beautiful Stubaital Valley, located in the Tyrol area, is easy to reach from Innsbruck. The area is ideal for rejuvenating the mind, body, and soul among its Alpine flora, bubbling streams, and pretty little villages. Enhance your visit with a trip to the stunning Grawa Waterfall, located close by.
