Covering 18,000 hectares, the Knuckles Mountain Range is a heavily forested area with 34 peaks, the highest of which is 1863 meters high. The British gave this mountain, which is Sri Lanka's sixth highest peak, its name because it resembles the knuckles of a fist. It is situated to the north and west of the Mahaweli River basin in the districts of Kandy and Matale. This area is regarded as one of the most difficult hiking routes in the nation, and a certified guide is required to go with you. You can choose from a variety of paths, though, and even if you have already hiked this route, you can be sure that you will have a fresh experience by choosing a different route.
Trekkers adore this climb because of its abundance of streams and waterfalls, diverse terrain, and abundant biodiversity. If you are a hiker travelling to Sri Lanka, you just must see this mountain range, which is a World Heritage protection area. June through September is the ideal time of year to trek to Knuckles because there is very little chance of rain, and the climb will be pleasurable.
