As one of Qatar’s most renowned cultural museums, the Museum of Islamic Art transports you back as far as the 7th century with its exquisite collections of artistic exhibits. From ceramics to woodwork, to textiles and jewellery, the items on display give you a glimpse into royal and ordinary household lives up until the 19th century. The museum is also home to over 800 Quran manuscripts, including the Abbasid Blue Quran, one of the world’s most prized and rarest manuscripts.
Best described as a cultural maze of winding pathways and cobblestone alleys that resemble a traditional souq, Katara is more than just a call back to the past. The cultural village plays a vital role in maintaining Qatar’s artistic traditions, providing a space for the country’s best creative talents to showcase their work. Once you’re in the village you can experience a vibrant world of artistry at several key sites including the Qatar Fine Arts Society, Qatar Photographic Society, Visual Arts Centre, Music Academy, and the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.
If you’re travelling with kids and plan to spend a day out filled with fun and entertainment, Doha’s Angry Birds theme park is where you need to be. Set up across 17,000 square metres within Doha Festival City, this colourful park will keep you and the little ones entertained with more than 20 thrilling rides for all ages. Qatar’s National Museum is arguably the best source of information on anything about the country’s storied past. Spread across 1.5 kilometres and only minutes away from the best hotels in Doha, the extensive museum covers the history of Qatar in three chapters - Beginnings, Life in Qatar, and Modern History of Qatar - each spread across 11 galleries. But the museum isn’t all about history; constructed by an award-winning architect, Jean Nouvel, the building’s interlocking structure was inspired by the desert rose crystal found only in the region and is a testament to the country’s artistic heritage.
Located in the heart of Doha city this historic fort was built back in 1972 and now serves as a cultural museum. It showcases many handicrafts, illustrations, ornaments, and weapons from Doha’s medieval period. The fort and its striking white architecture are easily spotted if you’re staying at the likes of Al Najada Doha Hotel by Tivoli and are venturing out for a walk through the neighbouring streets.
You can experience the essence of Venice without ever having to leave Doha when you shop at the vibrant Villaggio Mall. But shopping for luxury brands isn’t the only adventure you can enjoy here. The Mall is home to several restaurants, movie theatres, and even a Gondola theme park with unique rides inspired by authentic Venetian boat rides. If these weren’t enough entertainment, the theme park also features a bowling alley, go-kart track, roller coaster, and more.
