Top 5 Books For Web Designers

In this list, we look at the top five book that we think every web designer should read. The key is that only one book is actually on web design and it is over 20 years old.

The other books cover design, business and creativity – all key elements that every web designer should understand.

Don't Make Me Think

This book was first published in 2000 and is still one of the must reads for anyone wanting to work in web design.

As the title suggests, your users should not have to think. The layout of a website should be intuitive and easy as possible to navigate.

The Choice Factory

Behavioural Science is a topic that is often overlooked by web designers. Put briefly, it is the study of how people behave, and how to predict and change that behavior.

In his book, The Choice Factory, Richard Shotton looks at 25 biases that influence what we buy. It is presented in an easy to undertand way and is a great introduction to the topic.

Building A StoryBrand

This book is a must read, not just for web designers, but for any business owner. It is one we recommend to everyone we meet.

The book helps business owners to create a clear brand message that can be then used to all of their marketing – including their website.

Pretty Much Everything

Sometimes, it is important to read outside the subject. This book by graphic designer Aaron James Draplin cover his career and the work he has produced.

Aaron is a great storyteller (check out his YouTube videos) and shares some amazing ideas that any creative can use.

Now Try Something Weirder

There is always those moments when you are stuck for ideas and can’t find a way forward.

Designer Michael Johnson showcases some of the projects he has worked on and the techniques he has used when he is stuck for ideas.
