MICR311 ASSIGNMENT 1

The bacteria I have chosen is pseudomonas putida found in a wastewater environment as it caught my attention in how highly effective it is in bioremediation due to its ability to degrade organic pollutants and toxic compounds. It caught my interest in that it’s an eco-friendly, multitasking microbe that’s always ready to save the day, one molecule at a time.

Pseudomonas putida, the bacteria used for breaking down toxic pollutants and heavy metals

Pseudomonas putida is a gram-negative, rod shaped, non-pathogenic, motile bacterium found in wastewater environments. This bacterium thrives in aerobic conditions and helps clean contaminated water by degrading harmful chemicals like hydrocarbons and pesticides. Pseudomonas putida is versatile, loves to clean up oil spills, and can even break down plastic.

Various wastewater environments in which pseudomonas putida is found

Various wastewater environments where Pseudomonas putida can be found, including industrial wastewater plants, municipal sewage systems, agricultural runoff, oil-contaminated sites, and landfill leachate areas. This little microbe is a waste-busting powerhouse that keeps things flowing smoothly in wastewater environments.
