Koh Samui’s Hidden Spots: Top Reclusive Beaches to Visit on the Island

Koh Samui’s idyllic beaches are the main reason why most travellers choose to visit the island each year. Not only are they abundant in picturesque beauty, but they also provide a different kind of coastal experience that can only be described as pure bliss. However, in addition to its most popular beaches that draw in plenty of crowds, the island is also home to a few hidden coastal gems that are perfect for those seeking some much-needed privacy and quiet time. Here are some of the best hidden beaches that are worth discovering.

1

Samrong Beach & Thongson Bay

As the northernmost destinations in Koh Samui, these reclusive hideouts treat visitors to magnificent views of Koh Phangan around 10 kilometres away. Located side-by-side on the cape between the Choeng Mon and Big Buddha beaches, these two coves also feature crystal clear waters and white powdery sand. As such it is one of Samui’s best beach spots for those looking to spend a peaceful evening not too far from their hotels in Koh Samui.

2

Ban Tai Beach

This is yet another hidden gem located in the northernmost part of the island that remains mostly untouched by tourist activity. Its impressive stretch of sand that extends for two kilometres makes it one of the longest beaches in Koh Samui. It also features ample opportunities to go on fishing trips or enjoy some gentle kiteboarding when the winds and conditions are perfect. Ban Tai Beach is worth a visit for those staying in the same general area on the island in resorts like NH Collection Samui Peace Resort.

3

Phang Ka Beach

Tucked away on Koh Samui’s southwestern edge, this paradise features shallow waters that are ideal for snorkelling by which you’ll discover plenty of coral reefs hidden below. The coastline offers you a picture-perfect scene with a trail of bungalows on one side and vibrant green hills covered with coconut trees on the other, creating a peaceful scene not unlike a beautiful painting. Visitors can also find joy in the various bird species that visit the sand banks including white egrets who are often observed in zoos more than in their natural habitats.

4

Thong Krut Beach

Despite it being home to Fisherman’s Village this overlooked spot, located on the island’s south coast, surprises visitors with its picturesque beauty. Those looking to experience the traditional way of life among the island’s locals will be given more than a glimpse at the village that features wooden shacks on the beach and the sight of fishermen adjusting long-tail boats or mending fishing nets for their catch. The unique sights of the villagers together with the beach’s idyllic atmosphere, make for the perfect island retreat, even if just for a few hours.

5

Lipa Noi Beach

Situated on the west coast of Samui, this blissful spot which is often devoid of tourists treats visitors to some of the best sunset views on the island. You’ll have the option of witnessing the vibrant colours of the setting while lounging on the beach’s generous stretch of sand or while enjoying a dip in the cool shallow waters. The beach is also ideal for a slow romantic walk for couples looking to enjoy each other’s company surrounded by gentle waves.
