When the English captured Jamaica in 1655, the Spanish colonists fled after freeing their slaves. The slaves dispersed into the mountains, joining the those who had previously escaped from the Spanish to live with the Taínos. The Jamaican Maroons fought the British during the 18th century.
Trinidad ( Spanish: " Trinity") is the largest and most populous of the two major islands and numerous landforms which make up the island nation of Trinidad and Tobago. It is the southernmost island in the Caribbean and lies just 11 km (6.8 mi) off the northeastern coast of Venezuela.
