Zambian Safari Adventure Packing List: 7 Items You Should Not Miss

Zambia is a popular safari destination in Africa, and it's easy to see why. The country houses stunning scenery, wildlife, and opulent lodges. So if you have ever wondered what are the most practical items you need to pack for your safari tour, here are some pointers you might like to follow.

1

Comfortable outfits

You need to prioritize comfort and ease when you choose your clothing. Make sure that you pack items which shield you from the sun and keep you cool. The best hues are similar to the muted colours of the bush: khaki, green, and dust-brown. Keeping your outfits low-key will not distract the animals.

2

Shoes that are ideal for walking

Pack some light, closed-toe shoes when participating in game-viewing activities, such as game drives and, bush walks. It will be sufficient to wear sandals for the remainder of the day. Wearing pumps or high-heeled shoes is not advisable as they are not appropriate for uneven or wooden pathways.

3

Sun protection items

The African sun can be harsh during most months so you need to protect yourself from its scorching rays. Take along a high SPF sunscreen so that you can safeguard your skin from sunburn. Sunglasses too are needed to ward off the glare of the sun rays. You can even have a bandana or a scarf to protect your delicate skin or to safeguard yourself from inhaling dust.

4

Binoculars and camera

Since safari adventures are one of the top things to do in Zambia, it is a must that you take your camera and binoculars along as there will be plenty of photo-worthy opportunities and instances in which you would like to observe wildlife closely in their natural habitat. Stay at a property like Avani Victoria Falls Resort which is located around half an hour’s drive away from a wildlife hotspot like Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. So you will have no trouble charging your devices at your accommodation if you take the appropriate plug adapters along. Also, do not forget to bring plenty of memory cards to make full use of your photo-taking sessions.

5

Sweater and jacket

If you are travelling in the colder winter months of May, June, and July, you should bring a warm fleece or a jacket. Rain storms are expected in November and December. Therefore the climate can be cool. You can also throw in some scarves and beanie hats.

6

Mosquito repellent

Try to bring along some insect repellent with high DEET content. Though most camps provide these it is best to keep some handy just in case. These come in two varieties: one for your clothes and one for your skin. Sometimes the local goods function better than anything you could bring from home. So you might think of picking up some from the local store before heading out on your bush explorations.

7

Backpack or duffle bag

To save room in safari vehicles, choose soft duffel bags or a backpack rather than hard suitcases. These are easier to carry around too if you have to get out of the vehicle and stroll. You can also pack some emergency items like medicines or a few snacks in them which you might like to grab on the go.
