Delve into the Past at the Atyrau Regional Museum

The Atyrau Regional Museum is one of the most important cultural institutions in the country that contains a wealth of information about the history, culture and art of Kazakhstan. Located on the bank of the Ural River and not too far from the Somerset City Centre Atyrau, the museum functions as a historical research centre and is also dedicated to cultural preservation and educational outreach. It houses a vast collection of materials and artefacts including ethnographic materials, archaeological artefacts and exhibits that depict the lives of the nomadic people and the city’s transformation over centuries.

Following a few recent reconstructions, the site now features an architectural structure that surrounds the monument with a fountain at the base that lights up the monument at night.

Explore the Makhambet Drama Theater

Opened in 1938 as one of the first theatres in Kazakstan, this stunning building is yet another cultural landmark dedicated to Makhambet Utemisov who was also a renowned poet. The building often leaves visitors in awe due to its stunning architecture of neoclassical style which features white columns and opulent halls with pink marble walls and ceilings decorated with paintings and elaborate chandeliers.

Cruise Along the Ural River

Another great way to enjoy the scenic beauty of Atyrau is to embark on a cruise along the Ural River.
