Oman's Must-Do Experiences: Extraordinary Adventures That Are Truly Out of This World – Experience surprises, thrills

Blessed with fertile soil and lush landscapes Oman also boasts a virgin coastline and rugged terrain scattered with dramatic dunes. Embrace a heap of enticing adventures like exploring pristine islands, cliff jumping and more in this unique one-of-a-kind land.

1

Have a plunge at Bimmah Sinkhole

Situated less than an hour’s drive away from many a hotel in Sur Oman, Bimmah Sinkhole also known as Well of Souls is a wonder of nature that portrays a limestone sinkhole invitingly filled with crystal clear water. It is believed to have been formed by a collapse of the surface due to the dissolution of the next layer of limestone underneath. You can find the sinkhole within a short walk from the motorway, make sure you are dressed modestly and carry your swimwear to have a dip, which is a memorable experience.

Visitors using properties like Sur Plaza tend to go prepared to spend time here. There is free parking, changing facilities and enough ground space for relaxation. Those interested in cliff jumping can have a go at it as many locals usually do.

2

Beautiful Damaniyat Island

Situated close to the coast of Muscat this pristine island is a protected nature reserve of an archipelago with 9 tiny uninhabited islands in the Arabian Sea. With pristine white beaches, rocky limestone terrain visitors enjoy beautiful vistas on land and a wide canvas of marine life underwater. For underwater adventure lovers, this is a haven with diverse marine life including whale sharks and plenty of sea turtles. Being a nesting area for sea turtles many of them are often seen here.

3

Encounter the Ghost Village

This Ghost Village of Wadi Bani Habib is perched atop a cliff in the Al Hajar Mountains. This unseen jewel of Oman is a must-do adventure for intrepid visitors. The scenic village is known for its traditional architecture, stunning views and sheer remoteness with the village homes seemingly hanging off the face of the mountainside.

It is ideal to do this as a guided tour as the terrain is difficult, moreover, you learn more about what you see. Witnessing the beauty that surrounds the ghost town where no one lives anymore seems surreal. It is a good spot to capture photographs as memories of your visit.

4

Stunning Wahiba Sands

Do a day tour of the great desert in Oman, this will offer a real sense of the vastness of the desert and the incredible adventure possibilities. Most operators take you in the comfort of a 4WD to Wahiba Sands. You get to visit a village in the desert, interact with villages and witness their culture and rich Bedouin traditions.

This tour will also enable you to engage in adventure activities like quad biking, dune bashing, camel riding, sandboarding and trekking. Furthermore, you get to embrace the desert sunset and spend the night under the stars.

5

Seek Waterfalls

Experience the lush landscapes of Oman and the beautiful waterfalls at their height of beauty. This happens during the monsoon season from June to September in the southern state of Salalah. Enjoy the cooler weather and embrace waterfalls in numerous Wadi valleys with clear emerald-green waters that entice visitors.

While the transformation in Salalah is unique during this season known as Khareef Season, this is a great time for adventure lovers to make the most of the beautiful waterfalls.
