Mr G Online - Blog

Learning is not an isolated year by year proposition. The aim is not to get all the work done so we can go on holidays at the end of the year. The aim is not to ‘cover the curriculum’ and hope that next year’s teacher will start all over again from scratch. Learning has to be maintained. Learning has to be tracked. And as soon as cracks start to appear in EVERY student’s progress, we need to be able to identify what happened, what caused it and have a plan for doing something about it.

What is Cult of Pedagogy?

Education is complicated. It's a big, gnarly puzzle no one has been able to solve. For many, this is enough to drive them away, seeking solace in other fields. For others, it merely gives them something to complain about. And then there's you: the Teacher Nerd. You find the work exhausting, yes.

 IPAD 4 SCHOOLS

“iPads for schools” is great but…

Many schools fail to setup good support networks or provide the sensible PD that’s required to use them effectively. This is the gap I hope to fill. This blog discusses simple sensible steps to using the iPad in your school and its obvious effect in delivering 21st Century, student-centred learning.

Rigor is NOT a Four-Letter Word

Rigor is creating an environment in which each student is expected to learn at high levels,
each student is supported so he or she can learn at high levels,
and each student demonstrates learning at high levels (Blackburn, 2008).

Mystery envelopes create creative opportunities

The class divided itself into 5 groups of 4. As is customary with our exploration of a text, collaborative opportunities are present to grapple with meaning and a deeper understanding of author's craft. This time the assignment was cloaked in an envelop, randomly handed to each group - a situation from Pride and Prejudice present in the envelope with no specific directions on how to approach it.

As an educator it didn’t take long before I realized that I didn’t have all the great information that existed. Every new piece of information excited me and had me ponder how I could use it with my students. But, it also left me with an indelible feeling- wish I had known this information earlier.
From that an idea was born- How about we have a platform where great ideas in education are shared with all the caring educators for free? The answer was found in ProjectPupil.
