The Grand Palace

This grand structure is one of the most important historical buildings in Thailand. Built in 1782, the palace formerly served as the residence of the Thai king and still exudes the royal aura of its glory days. The Palace has several buildings including the magnificent Wat Phra Kaew, an Outer Court, a Central Court and the Inner Court.

Many who visit the Palace also visit the Wat Phra Kaew which is the most important Buddhist temple in the country. It holds the sacred Emerald Buddha, a highly revered image created from a single block of jade and with robes that are changed during different seasons by the King in a significant ritual.

Wat Arun

This landmark temple which is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River is one of the most stunning temples in the country because of its unique design. Also called the Temple of Dawn, the structure is made of vibrantly coloured spires and thus stands dazzling over the river water. The temple’s central prang can be climbed although the steps are rather steep. If you prefer to stay grounded you can admire the various sculptures of Chinese animals and soldiers at the base of the prang. The temple’s ordination hall also features a golden image of the Buddha along with intricate murals that adorn the walls.

A visit to the Asiatique makes for an excellent night out as it seamlessly combines the experiences of a night bazaar and a mall. There are plenty of boutiques that open at the close of the day offering various gifts while several other restaurants provide local snacks and treats. 

In the Chareonkrung district, you’ll find more small boutiques that sell jewellery, handicrafts, and clothes by fashionable local brands. The Factory District is where all of the latest gadgets and technology while the Waterfront District features all of the Thai, Italian and seafood restaurants.
