Free Experiences in Singapore: Explore the City’s Wonders at No Cost to You

While Singapore is known for its upscale living standards and high-end experiences, that doesn’t mean you can enjoy the city in other less extravagant ways. Blessed with a unique mix of modern marvels and natural splendour there are plenty of places and experiences in the Garden City state that are simply priceless. Here are some of the best things to do for free to explore the best of Singapore.

1

Enjoy Sentosa Island

Singapore’s resort island of Sentosa is a holiday haven that can be on the more expensive side, however, it also has its fair share of free experiences that are perfect for a day out. In the right weather conditions, you can visit any of the three mesmerising beaches on the island and even visit Fort Siloso that houses several historical bunkers and exhibits regarding WWII.

2

Capture the Skyline at Marina Bay

If you are staying at any of the best hotels near Marina Bay, Singapore, you might as well seize your chance to capture the stunning Singapore skyline at the Bay. A carefully taken photograph will capture several of the country’s most iconic structures that stand tall against the skyline. Alternatively, at night, the city lights come to life in full force, beautifully illuminating the skyline and giving you a rather different viewing experience. Either way, a shot of the Singapore skyline would certainly make for a great postcard or a wonderful addition to your vacation photo album.

3

Marvel at the Supertrees

While several areas at Gardens by the Bay including the Flower Dome, Cloud Forest, and the OCBC Skywalk all require admission tickets and fees, there’s plenty to see and explore around the Gardens for free. You can visit the famous Supertree Grove in the evenings just before 7.45 which is when you can catch ‘Garden Rhapsody’ which is a 15-minute light and sound show that takes place within the Supertrees. There are also several other outdoor gardens, art sculptures and various landscapes that you can explore as well.

4

Explore the Historic River

The mouth of the historic Singapore River used to be a trade hub and the place from which modern Singapore emerged after the arrival of the British in 1819. The best way to explore the river banks is to take a stroll along the waters and observe the several establishments and buildings which include Boat Quay, Clarke Quay, the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, and the Asian Civilisations Museum.

5

Immerse Yourself in the culture of Chinatown

Plenty of the local culture in Singapore is derived from the traditions and customs of the Chinese passed down through the early Chinese settlers who arrived in the region. The best place to learn of these settlers is to visit Chinatown located in the Chinese heritage district and just 20 minutes from PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay Singapore. You’ll find murals by local artist Yip Yew Chong that adorn the neighbourhood walls. There are also several significant temples that you can visit, as well as plenty of Chinese street food delights to enjoy.
