A Guide to Bangkok’s Parks and Green Spaces - Where to Escape the City Buzz

Bangkok, known for its bustling streets and vibrant urban life, also boasts a variety of parks and green spaces that offer a refreshing escape from the city's hustle and bustle. These green oases provide residents and visitors alike with serene environments to relax, exercise, and connect with nature. Whether you're looking for a place to jog, picnic, or simply unwind, the parks of Bangkok serve as vital lungs for the city, enriching the quality of life for all who experience them. The parks in Bangkok are quite unique and offer environmental benefits, serving as essential green lungs for the city and contributing to a healthier urban ecosystem.

1

Lumphini Park

Lumpini Park, named after the birthplace of Lord Buddha in Nepal, is a tranquil oasis in the heart of Bangkok, encompassing over half a million square meters of lush greenery and peaceful lakes. Established in the 1920s as a proposed exhibition centre for Thai crafts and flower displays, the park has evolved into a vibrant hub of outdoor activity for locals, who flock there at sunrise and sunset to walk, jog, and participate in various recreational pursuits.

2

Saranrom Park

Originally the private park and zoo of King Rama V, who gathered rare plants from around the globe, Saramrom Park is now accessible to the public, allowing visitors to admire century-old trees within a historical landscape and architectural setting. Conveniently situated at the corner of Sanamchai, Rachini, and Charoenkrung roads, the park is directly across from the Grand Palace, making it an ideal spot for those exploring the area, especially if you are basing your stay in Bangkok in a hotel in Sathorn such as one like the Oakwood Hotel and Residence Bangkok.

 Queen Sirikit Park

Queen Sirikit Park boasts a new wooden pedestrian bridge, providing an easy way for visitors to cross over to the adjacent Rod Fai Park. Constructed from timber, the Bird Wave bridge draws inspiration from the nearby bird sanctuary and has become a favoured spot for birdwatching. In contrast to the nearby Wachira Benchathat Park, which is designed for biking, cycling is not permitted within Queen Sirikit Park. Visitors are encouraged to park their bikes and explore the park on foot

Wachira Benchathat/Rod Fai Park

Formerly the golf course of the State Railway of Thailand, this expansive public park is commonly referred to as Suan Rodfai. It has been transformed into a haven for jogging, cycling, and weekend relaxation. With excellent walking and biking trails, as well as numerous picnic spots and food vendors throughout the park, it’s a fantastic destination for families and children. Additionally, its proximity to the renowned Chatuchak Market makes it the perfect complement to a day.

Benjasiri Park

Opened in 1992 to commemorate Queen Sirikit's 60th birthday, this green space is located adjacent to a luxury shopping mall in the Khlong Toei district. Art enthusiasts will appreciate the opportunity to discover 12 sculptures scattered throughout this compact park. Benjasiri Park is an inviting spot to relax and experience local park life. Notable activities within the park include Tai Chi in the front square, joggers along the perimeter, aerobics in the back area, and games of Sepak Takraw (Thai foot volleyball) and basketball in the rear courts.
