A Long Weekend in Bangkok - Perfect Itinerary for a Quick Getaway

Bangkok, the vibrant capital of Thailand, is a city that seamlessly blends tradition and modernity, making it an ideal destination for a weekend getaway. From the ornate temples and street markets to the nightlife and exquisite dining options, Bangkok offers a myriad of experiences to suit every traveller. This weekend itinerary will guide you through the best attractions, local delicacies, and hidden gems, ensuring you make the most of your time in this dynamic metropolis.

1

First Day - Morning and Afternoon

Start fresh in Bangkok right after breakfast, where one can take a stroll along Charoen Krung Road toward Sathorn Pier, one of Bangkok's oldest roads, now lined with a vibrant mix of restaurants, bars, and shops. Foodies can rave about authentic Thai food, particularly the Krapao Neua (fried minced beef with Thai basil), which is a must-try. From Sathorn Pier, embark on an engaging hop-on, hop-off tour using the public ferry, marked by an orange flag, which stops at various attractions along the river. Afterwards, walk or ferry to Wat Pho Temple to see the impressive 150-foot-long reclining Buddha.

First Day - Evening and Night

After a quick refresh at your hotel, hop in a taxi or the nearest MRT and head to the iconic Khaosan Road. This world-renowned street transforms into a pedestrian haven at night, with vendors and street food stalls spilling onto the sidewalks. If you're looking to dive into Bangkok's vibrant bar scene, Khaosan Road is an excellent starting point. While there are numerous restaurants to choose from, consider grabbing a plastic chair at one of the many street vendors. The street food in Bangkok is famous for its crunchy, salty, tangy, and flavorful offerings. Indulge in a mouthwatering array of deep-fried spring rolls, fried chicken, fried roti, pad Thai, and, of course, the irresistible mango sticky rice.

Second Day - Morning and Afternoon

Start your day with a unique perspective of Bangkok by enjoying a floating breakfast at Khlong Lat Mayom, one of the city’s most famous floating markets. Once a city built around canals, Bangkok's history is still evident in its local klongs, where remnants of its past coexist with modern skyscrapers. As you explore the historic canals and watch the long-tail boats navigate the waterways, prepare your taste buds for a culinary adventure. After your floating breakfast, head to Siam, Bangkok's premier shopping and entertainment district, known for its luxurious malls that provide a unique shopping experience unlike anywhere else in the world.

Second Day - Evening and Night

Experiencing a Muay Thai match is one of the most exciting activities in Bangkok, offering a more authentic experience compared to the fights on the islands. You can catch a match any night of the week, with Rajadamnern Stadium hosting fights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, while Lumpinee Boxing Stadium features matches on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Before heading to the match, be sure to explore Bangkok’s Chinatown, located along Yaowarat Road, which is one of the largest Chinatowns in the world. The vibrant atmosphere is filled with hanging red lanterns, neon lights, and a symphony of languages and street sounds, creating a sensory feast.

Third Day - The city is your oyster

On your third day in Bangkok, you have the freedom to choose from a variety of delightful activities to make the most of your time in the city. You might start your morning with a leisurely breakfast, overlooking the serene Chao Phraya River.  Afterwards, you could immerse yourself in Bangkok's cultural scene,  or alternatively, you could embark on a cultural tour to explore renowned temples like Wat Traimit, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun. No matter if you're staying in a short-stay hotel in Sukhumvit such as the famous SQ Boutique Hotel, you can still make the most of your weekend here!
