Exploring The Garden City: Singapore’s Best Green Spaces

Since it is famously known as the Garden City, the locals in Singapore take pride in their city’s cleanliness and various green spaces. While many speak of the magnificent Gardens by the Bay and the Singapore Botanical Gardens as the city’s must-visit green attractions, Singapore is home to several other parks and reserves that have their unique beauty and serene surroundings. If you find yourself in Singapore and are looking to explore its green public spaces beyond the iconic attractions, here’s a list of parks to check out.

1

Bishan - Ang Mo Kio Park

This is one of the biggest urban parks in Singapore and is a popular area for those in the central and northern areas of Singapore. Located among the HDB estates, the park and its vibrant green surroundings provide a much-needed escape from the noisy city life. It features a 6-kilometre stretch of greenery that includes a lotus garden, a cycling track and a naturalised river where you can spot adorable otters.

2

Jurong Lake Gardens

This is a relatively new park and is the ideal natural gateway for families and the local community to gather. This 90-hectare garden is the third national garden in Singapore and features interesting planting life including lalang fields and a majestic lone tree. Make sure to bring your camera as the garden has several spots that are worthy of photography.

3

Labrador Nature Reserve

If you’re at a nearby hotel like the PARKROYAL on Beach Road and are looking for a calm spot for a coastal run, then the Labrador Nature Reserve is your best bet. The best time to visit is early morning or late evening when you can witness the mesmerising sunrise and sunset as you jog. It is also abundant in vibrant bird life with over 70 species of bird inhabiting the area including the Blue-crowned Hanging Parrot, Rufous Woodpecker and the Abbott’s Babbler.

4

Mount Faber Park

If you’re already enjoying some of the best hotel deals in Singapore, pair it with a visit to Mount Faber Park which is home to the infamous Henderson waves, a baby Merlion and the Bell of Happiness. You can take a stroll and make your way to the top of the mountain where you can enjoy a cool evening breeze and admire the panoramic views of southern Singapore. You’ll also have the chance to spot various bird species if you visit the mountain in the morning or evening, and a wide range of plants that grow there.

5

Admiralty Park

This is yet another playful paradise for kids, located in Woodlands. The park features 26 slides which is the highest of any park in Singapore. There are three main play areas that capitulate on the area's terrain and provide eager youngsters with a variety of play equipment to try. You’ll also find several walking trails within the 20-hectare park by which you can explore the park and spot the various species of animals that live there including dragonflies and monkeys.

6

Fort Canning Park

Located in the heart of Singapore, this is an iconic landmark that has been around through several of Singapore’s milestones. After several enhancement programmes, the park remains in great condition and features a large playground and steel slide for kids to enjoy as they explore the park.
