SimpliSafe Complaints 2013

I heard Rush advertise this system on his daily radio talk show. Having owned and discontinued a nationality known system due to its high cost, I did some research on Simplisafe. It seemed to be the ideal system for the typical homeowner, so I ordered it. Everything arrived in 4 days and I easily had it installed and checked out in less than 1 hour! It works perfectly and I can monitor it using my iPad from anywhere I can get an Internet connection. This will provide me with a great piece of mind when my wife and I are on extended road trips (we're retired, senior citizens that enjoy the roadways).

They are constantly improving their options. They now have flood detection, a more high tech base with more capabilities, and I'm pretty sure they have several other options to include video monitoring coming up as well as carbon monoxide detection, etc. If they don't have it now, wait a few months, they are always adding options. And best of all, you only have to pay for the equipment. For most like me, they have all of the basic equipment you need such as a panic button, remote, keypad with LCD display, motion detectors, window and door sensors, etc.

I have not been a SimpliSafe customer for more than a year, due to poorly functioning equipment and months of frustration with Tech Support. Just this week I received a highly inappropriate voicemail message from a customer service rep. He stated, "Your name out of the blue popped in my head. Just calling to say hello and hope everything's going well. Just figured I'd touch base and see how you're doing." He concluded with, "Hope you're doing well. Take care, Sweetie." I was APPALLED: first, that I was called, no longer being a subscriber for so long, and most importantly, that the message was so personal, almost implying some kind of intimate relationship. I was absolutely disgusted, and greatly offended. I urged the company that he be disciplined, receive mandated customer service retraining, and be closely supervised in his dealings with customers. I highly recommend you avoid this company! Save yourself the frustration and disrespect. Check out other options available in your area.

There is no contract. At all. EVERY other company I called from the major retailers required at least two years to "subsidize" their installation and you couldn't get out unless you moved the service, require installation at the new place and a transfer fee. Some were as many as three years commitment. What if you move before then? With SimpliSafe, NO CONTRACT!

I purchased a simplisafe security system because it all sounded good and way cheaper than any other alarm company. it came in less than 5 days and we were so excited, however that was the best part of it all. we were trying to use motions and thats where we ran into trouble. the motions worked sometimes but not all the time. we would have to actually walk up to it and wave our hand right in front of it, even though it worked only a few minutes prior. we spent countless hours trying to re-figure where to put it so it would work all the time and finally after 2 days of frustration and trying, we decided we couldn't find complete confidence in the system and are boxing it up to send it back. sounds good, but you are better off spending the money for a regular system installed by the professionals..it's your family at risk

Three year warranty against manufacturer defects

We have had an alarm for our home for over 25 years, and this is by far much superior. First, we paid a bit over $2,300.00 for our first system. The SimpliSafe system with a couple options, just over $300.00. We love being able to go online to make any changes to our system, and then sync those changes to our control box. It's so flexible, and easy to maintain. The only negative is the fact the siren built into the main box isn't real loud, but the fix for that is to order the optional second siren.

We would most definitely recommend the SimpliSafe system.

installed but it doesn't work without tmobile. they don't say that anywhere on their website or in their manual. After lots of money and time spent they are totally unapologetic and can offer no solution, even though I have a land line. worthless. save your money and get a different brand.

I ordered the SimpliSafe Basic System plus additional entry sensors to install in a new property and to possibly replace an Alarm Force system in others. The Web site said to order and get a $25 gift free key fob. The Basic System shows 5 components including a Key Fob. So I had expected an extra Key Fob as the gift.
When I received the system there was one only one keyfob and they claimed the Gift "free" keyfob was the one in the package.
In order to address this I called their Customer Support and was placed on hold twice; once for 15 minutes and once for 20+ minutes; while anyone pressing the number for ordering a new system got immediate access.
To me this shows an emphasis on sales using misleading advertising and a total lack of customer support.
I have decided to continue with a competitor's system where I get what is advertised and much much better customer support response.
In short I believe these people are pushing equipment sales of equipment made in China for 1/10th their cost without appropriate commitment to any support.

I bought Simplisafe and completed the installation yesterday. It is as simple as their video shows, really! As part of my system I have several motion detectors and was worried about my 110lb large dog tripping them. Using the advice of others, I installed them at about 5 feet off the floor and upside down. Last night he wandered around the house without any problem. When I walked in they detected my motion though. I ordered an additional motion sensor the day after my original order and because of the timing, it was not "linked" or recognized by the base unit. I called customer support and had it resolved in about 5 minutes, GREAT customer service.
All in all, this is a solid security system that allows you to expand and will allow you to increase or decrease the monitoring options at will without penalty. I will be getting systems for my children's homes very soon.

Upon hearing Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh & Dave Ramsey expound about SimpliSafe's ease of installation, lack of contract and affordability, my husband and I went to the SimpliSafe website and watched the short, informative video. We were sold immediately. Ordering couldn't have been easier. Our kit arrived a week later and within an hour and a half our system was installed and running (in test mode--a very smart option). It was necessary for me to contact their customer service department, online, and I received an answer promptly and courteously within 24 hours. Well Done SimpliSafe! I have already recommended your system to several of my friends and family members. The one (and only) small issue would be this -- the booklet accompanying the kit contains references to a glass breaking sensor component -- I was unable to find this item online and was informed that I could obtain this later in the year. We ALMOST spent thousands of dollars for a security system that would have bound us contractually for three years. Thank you SimpliSafe! We hope we never need your services but are so glad to have your unit covering our home!

We've been using ADT for a number of years, since the house was broken into. They're okay, but expensive - and our setup required a land-line. This is modular and wireless, and monitoring rates are about half those of ADT. So I bought an 8-component set, and found it easy to install - although the motion sensor didn't test the way the instructions said it would, it nonetheless works, which is what counts. We need a license from the police in our area, but no problem - when I called and told them I was changing to a different service provider, that was all I needed to do. If you need them, forms are included with their shipment, so if you need to change your license, they make it easy.

Pros: The system is designed for a one bedroom to a three-bedroom home with simplicity in mind. It can be expanded to meet a larger home. They do sell additional devices to meet your needs like smoke detector, glass breaker, motion detector and extra magnets for the window and door sensors. The best part besides the easy setup, is the take it when you move from place to place.

Con: It's not designed to integrate with any CCTV DVR systems. They do not tell you were to get the phone app to monitor your home. I had to google it to find it. Alarm key pad needs better lighting and could use amore sophisticated look. They sell the idea that it only cost $14.95 to monitor. But really there is two more monitoring cost depending on what type of monitor you're looking. I paid for the full monitor that cost me $24.95 p/month. Again, no contract which is a plus. However, it's well priced. I gave it a 4 Star for innovation, price and easy set up. Again, like anything else you buy. You get what you pay for and this is worth it cost.

This is a really great home security system. Setting up was a breeze even with limited knowledge on security system. This is good buy for the same functionalities of competing brands. I love the no contract monitoring at $20 per month that includes SMS texting.

I spent weeks looking at the different options in home security. And, I'm a previous ADT customer (previous house); did not want to go through that again (expensive and 2yr contract)! Simplisafe was perfect for me! It comes already setup and ready to use. You can literally take it out of the box and it works. Setup the sensors, with sticky strips and/or screws, and your done. It will literally take about 10-15 minutes total. And it's easy enough that a 10 year old could do it. There's a web interface (smart phone as well) that allows you to define different settings in detail. You can even control the alarm remotely via the web interface. So, if you're not sure you turned it on, go to the web interface and see. If you didn't you can turn it on there, no matter where you are. It will send emails, text messages and call the police. And it's cellular, so no sniping of the phone lines to defeat it! I love it!

Quite simply, it didn't work. It would never connect via the cellular connection so my house/monitoring never worked, despite having paid for it. Support was decent, responded quickly, however their best ideas were to turn it off, take out the batteries, put them back in, turn it on and put it closer to a window. Also, two entry sensors would stay in an error state constantly, causing the unit to flash bright blue all the time. Ended up sending it back as I didn't feel it was worth it. Parts felt cheap and they're not UL listed (for what that's worth). Sent it back for a refund.

We 'untethered' from ADT monitoring last year after yet another price increase just to monitor our out-of-date burglar alarm system. Although we disliked the lack of monitoring, the only options we knew about involved either purchase of a new system and paying off another long-term contract, or renewing the high monthly monitoring on our old, wired alarm system. Then we heard the SimpliSafe ad on several talk radio shows whose hosts we trust not to do business with shady companies. After much research, what seemed to be too good to be true turned out to be too good but actually true--state of the art, expandable, wireless burglar and fire monitoring with no contract requirements, low pricing, and great customer service. Wow! Are we ever pleased with our decision to purchase the SimpliSafe home alarm with monitoring! It works exactly as promised. Once the alarm system gains the ability to tie into video monitoring as an option, we will raise it up to five stars. Highly recommend!

An amazing product, amazing price and amazingly easy to install - read the manual and 15 minutes later it was up and running. My brother-in-law had the system installed when we visited a couple of weeks ago and I immediately ordered my own package. Now I am recommending it to all my family and friends.

I am approximately 93% satisfied with this product; the ONLY thing I don't like is that it takes over 60 seconds after a door is opened before the alarm sounds. I would like to see MUCH less time lapse; a LOT can happen to a person in a minute!!

Instruction manual for installation and operations was very simple, to the point, and easily understandable for each stage of the installation. Operation is very easy; particularly, with the key-chain remote. Extra modules are easy to install and program at any time so one need not buy a complete system (meaning very elaborate) at once. Just add what seems to be needed or desired after the system is installed and working. I was able to completely cusomize my system including protection of an outlying studio building! Fourteen windows, four doors, two sirens, three motion detectors, all completely wireless and all completely installed and operating in a single day. Couldn't be easier!

The monitoring services could not be more reasonable. That, among other things, is what convinced me to buy this system. Why spend thousands of dollars and be locked into iron-clad contracts when there is a much better alternative! And, if you move, take it with you - it's yours!

This system is quite possibly the best and simplest system out there for home security. It took me 25 mins to install and test. It works perfectly and is very simple to use. Even if I had one of the "big companies'" system, I'd switch to Simplisafe2, a very inexpensive monitoring service is available and no contracts. It just doesn't get any better or easier!
