The Zanzibar International Film Festival, or ZIFF, is one of the biggest festivals held on the island. It takes place during the first two weeks of July and honours the arts and culture of Africa, the Middle East, and the islands of the Indian Ocean - known as the Dhow countries. The highlight of the festival is the film screenings, with the winners receiving the Gold and Silver Dhow Awards. The festival also features non-competitive films from around the world. Other activities and events include music, theatre, and dance performances, workshops, and exhibitions. These events are held in the Forodhani Gardens and entrance is free to visitors.
