Extraordinary things to do in the United Arab Emirates – Explore the unusual in the enigmatic United Arab Emirates!

A well-known hub for shopping, dining and sightseeing, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) also has many raw and unusual escapades for visitors. Tailored for those seeking immersive experiences of the desert and the Arabic culture they are varied and enriching. Let us delve into some of the cool yet unusual ones.

1

Enjoy a desert rendezvous

Embark on a desert adventure, considered one of the unique things to do in Ras Al Khaimah. Opting for a morning desert safari is a fantastic choice, allowing you to arrive early and witness the spectacular desert sunrise—a sight that brings awe to many visitors. Thereafter, go sandboarding, visit the golden dunes, a camel farm and even experience a camel ride in the desert. For those who would like to do an overnight in the desert, even that is possible in Ras Al Khaimah.

The historical neighbourhood of Al Fahidi

Situated along Dubai Creek in Old Dubai, the Al Fahidi neighbourhood is an iconic heritage site dating back to the late 19th century. Most of the original infrastructure is still preserved, with around 60 housing units which are separated by narrow lanes. The traditional wind towers, made of sandstone, palmwood, teak and gypsum portray the history of this small district before the United Arab Emirates was split into 7 distinct Emirates. Walking down the winding lanes will give you glimpses of museums, art galleries, special events the locals may have and a chance to taste traditional food.

Mystical Al Jazirat Al Hamra

Al Jazirat Al Hamra (the name translates to Red Island), due to the red sand of the region Ras Al Khaimah was a bustling fishing and pearl-diving village in the 19th century, established on a tiny tidal island ruled by the Al Zaab tribe. With fishing and pearl diving doing well, the village blossomed. At the dawn of the 20th century, the village had grown to nearly 4,000 people.

This position changed in the mid-20th century with the discovery of oil and inhabitants moving out of the village for big cities. The dilapidated homes built of coral and the deserted village on the coast of Ras Al Khaimah stand as a Ghost Town, the name used for it now. For visitors using properties like Anantara Mina Al Arab Ras Al Khaimah Resort, this Ghost Town is just s short drive away.
