Stunning Unusual Places To Visit In Dubai - Explore the Hidden Gems of this opulent Gulf City

Dubai is known for its lavish urban environment with giant skyscrapers, luxury hotels and malls. However, did you know that there’s also a little-known side of this city, one which is more cultural, and allows travellers to connect with its authentic charm? Here are some of the most unusual places to visit in Dubai off-the-beaten-track:

1

Bur Dubai

This is a historical area in Dubai Creek and is one of the oldest parts of the city. Visitors can admire houses built in traditional styles that are centuries old. You could also visit the Dubai Museum, in the old Al Fahidi Fort, especially if you’re a history lover who wants to learn more about the city’s past. You will also find many spice souks here, with stalls selling cloves, saffron, cardamom and more.

2

Al Bastakiya

Al Bastakiya Quarters is another historical part of Bur Dubai and a must-visit location to learn about the roots of modern-day Dubai. The houses and buildings here are made of mud and wood and tourists can walk down the narrow cobblestone streets exploring them. There are also several cafes and shops where you can pick up souvenirs. Have a traditional Arabian meal at one of the restaurants, or a cup of tea at the Tea House and chat with the locals to discover the authentic side of Dubai.

3

Coffee Museum

The Coffee Museum is another quaint area in the Al Fahidi Historical neighbourhood of Bur Dubai. Perfect for coffee lovers, it’s a great place to enjoy a steaming cup of the brew. You can also discover more about the origins of coffee and how it is used in different parts of the world.  At the museum, you’ll learn about how coffee is prepared, and be able to pick up souvenirs and coffee-making accessories at Villa 44, the gift shop.

4

ArtBus Tour

If you want to experience Dubai’s art culture, and don’t know where to start, book a tour on the ArtBus. The bus will take you to all of the art studios in the city on an unforgettable ride. You can view everything from art centres to fairs and museums along this journey and meet talented artists as well. The bus, too, is an art gallery of sorts, with skilled artists displaying their artwork onboard.

5

Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo

The Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo is a wonderful attraction for the whole family, allowing you to experience the beauty of a magical undersea world. Here you will find hundreds of marine species including sharks, rays, and other exotic fish in a 10 million litre tank. At the zoo, you can view otters, penguins and crocodiles being fed and frolicking about. There are several comfortable hotel apartments in Dubai situated close to the zoo where visitors can relax, such as Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort.

6

Dubai Creek

At Dubai Creek, visitors can gain an insight into Dubai’s past as a fishing village. Travellers can embark on a boat ride across the creek in an abra (traditional fishing boat). Explore the sights and sounds around you, such as the dhow boats, the bustling souks or marketplaces and the buildings in the historical neighbourhood of Bur Dubai.
